Cloughjordan talk on the hero of gallipoli
Cloughjordan Heritage Group are hosting a talk on Sergeant James
Somers, Victoria Cross (VC) recipient, at the Thomas MacDonagh Heritage
Centre, Cloughjordan on Thursday November 20th at 8pm.
Presenter is Ger Heffernan and all are welcome.
James Somers, whose family lived in Cloughjordan, served with distinction in the First World War and was awarded the Victoria Cross in 1915 at Gallipoli. He died in 1918 from the effects of gas poisoning during the war and is buried in Modreeny Churchyard, Cloughjordan.
