Garda car rammed in roscrea
Gardaí were fortunate to avoid injury after a driver rammed a patrol car in Roscrea on New Year's Day.
The incident occurred around 12.30am when the male driver attempted to evade capture after gardaí suspected him of drink driving. After a chase, the driver reportedly turned his vehicle around and rammed the patrol car. Nobody was injured in the incident. The man was arrested at the scene.
In another incident, a man was arrested after he drove in the wrong direction on the M7 motorway around 5pm last Saturday. It is understood that the driver, a Silvermines man, had been drinking and was involved in a crash in which his vehicle spun. He may have been disorientated and began driving in the opposite direction. He was arrested and has been charged with drink driving and dangerous driving at several locations on the M7, including Rathnevogue, Moneygall and Dunkerrin.
Meanwhile gardaí in Nenagh had a busy New Year's night with several public disorder arrests in the town. They are also investigating a row in which a Thurles man was reportedly assaulted at Pearse St last Saturday night. The man sustained facial injuries; gardaí say they are following a definite line of inquiry into the incident.
Elsewhere a shop on Pearse St was broken into over the weekend. The shop was damaged but it appears that nothing was taken. Damage was also caused to a vacant house at Brook-Watson, and a man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving at Clare St on Sunday morning.
