Upperchurch actress and playwright Áine Ryan stars in 'Kitty in the Lane' this Saturday night

Witty kitty comes to nenagh

Nenagh theatregoers are in for a real treat this Saturday night when one-person play with a difference 'Kitty in the Lane' comes to the arts centre.

Written and performed by Upperchurch playwright and actress Áine Ryan (22), 'Kitty in the Lane' has already enjoyed 26 consecutive dates at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
The play tells the story of a 20-year old girl living in an isolated cottage in rural southwest Ireland with her elderly father. As well as minding her father, Kitty has to manage the family farm alone, due to her brother’s recent death. She also has to make do without a car, having been 'put off the road' for drink driving.
The action takes place on the eve of a local beauty pageant, with Kitty waiting for her boyfriend to escort her to the event for a night escaping her domestic duties. As Kitty waits for his arrival we get a glimpse into her world, and her relationship with family, friends and community.
The play is described as a dark drama, unlocking Kitty's perspective of life as a young woman in a lonesome environment. But it is also filled with comedic relief through Kitty's witty observations and anecdotes of her own reckless activity in the past.

Show starts at Nenagh Arts Centre at 7.30pm this Saturday, January 31st.
