St cronans to play in aviva mini rugby festival at aviva stadium

Tipperary school St. Cronan’s have been invited to play at the Aviva Stadium this Saturday, 23rd May, in the Aviva Mini Rugby Festival.

They will be one of 20 mini rugby teams from picked from 240 clubs across the country who will get the opportunity to play where their heroes, like Robbie Henshaw, Peter O’Mahony and Dave Kearney, have played.

The National Festival is being held in the home of Irish Rugby, the Aviva Stadium, for the second time following a hugely successful festival in 2014.  The 20 U-10 clubs from all over the country will be playing against each other in a non-competitive and fun environment. This gives the players the chance to develop their skills on a pitch that has been graced by some of the world’s greatest rugby players in the past 12 months.

Ireland and Leinster star Luke Fitzgerald will be there on the day to give tips and advice to all the players and coaches in attendance.  Each of the competitors on the day will receive a certificate of participation signed by Irish Internationals Paul O’Connell, Rory Best and Jamie Heaslip.

Mark Russell, Aviva Sponsorship Manager, said; “Generally it’s the big International matches that grab the limelight at the Stadium, but every so often we get to put on something like the Aviva Mini Rugby Festival.  It’s gives every player on the day that big match feeling, to experience what it is like to run onto the pitch and play where all their heroes have played.  We are delighted to welcome all 20 teams and their family and friends to the Stadium on the 23rd for a day they will never forget.”

Hendrik Kruger, IRFU Age Grade Manager; 'The lasting effects a day like this has on the players, the parents and the clubs are many fold. A memory such as playing at the Aviva Stadium will hopefully the first stage of a glittering rugby career for many. It is also a great chance to play other teams from all over Ireland at this level and long may it continue.”
