Tipp gets ready to relay
The 2015 Tipperary Relay for Life, which is set to take place on the 15/16th August, will see the people of Tipperary join forces with the Irish Cancer Society to host the deeply moving and uplifting 24-hour community event, which celebrates survivorship, remembers those lost to cancer, and plays an active role in raising awareness of cancer in the community.
All funds raised through sponsorship and fundraising will go to support the Irish Cancer Society's services in Tipperary, and to support its work in achieving world-class cancer services, ensuring fewer people get cancer and those that do have better outcomes.
Speaking about the Relay for Life, Kathleen O'Meara, Head of Advocacy & Communications at the Irish Cancer Society, said: 'Cancer is something that affects so many people. This event is unique in that it gives people a way to come together and remember those who they have lost, celebrate with those who have survived and fight back together against cancer. We encourage as many people as possible to get involved in what is sure to be a unique, empowering and fun event and one that can make a real difference for people living with cancer now and those who may be diagnosed in the future.'
Lorna King, Chairperson of the Relay for Life Committee, said: 'There are many ways to get involved in the Relay for Life event. Be part of a team, come together with friends and family, teams are such an integral part of this event. We are always looking for volunteers for the event to help out on the day. If you are a cancer survivor, please come along and be our VIP for the day. There will be a full schedule of entertainment for the event.'
