Community survey in Cloughjordan
The Makery, the Nenagh Guardian entry to this year's national 'Get Involved' local newspaper initiative, is asking people in Cloughjordan to take part in a survey.
The Makery is a community craft centre on the Main Street of Cloughjordan. It was founded in 2012 as a community venue that promotes arts and crafts as meaningful activities by providing space and equipment for a range of creative pursuits.
The Makery has begun a process of exploring how it could transform itself into a community co-operative and be more effective in promoting local arts and crafts, being of greater benefit to the local area as well as providing meaningful livelihoods to those that work there.
A survey is being developed to gauge the wider community's interest in a daytime social space, a café and an all-purpose space for activities such as knit and stitch, spinning, felt making and self development workshops.
The Makery hopes to get as many opinions as possible and will be undertaking the survey at the end of October. What better way to build a community co-op than to know from the get-go exactly what the community's needs and wants are?
Surveys will be available at the Makery, which is just across the road from the Heritage Centre in Cloughjordan, or from their website. Completed surveys can be dropped into Murphy’s, Centra, Rohan's and the post office before Monday November 2nd.
There will be a public meeting on November 5th in the GAA meeting room at 8pm. All are invited hear the findings of the survey and what the co-operative is going to become.
The Makery will be one of the projects highlighted by Duncan Stewart, the national broadcaster and head judge of the Get Involved contest, at an event being held in Cloughjordan on October 28th. This meeting will outline different ways community-led enterprises can be stronger through co-operation. All are welcome to attend.
