Nenagh business celebrates 25th anniversary
Family-run Nenagh business Moyles Garage Ltd is this week marking the 25th anniversary of its establishment on the Old Birr Road.
The well-known motor specialist company was founded by Tom Moyles. Tom started out in 1968 with Vauxhall dealer Mick Keller on the Borrisokane Road. He then worked at Moynan’s garage on Clare St after EA Moynan secured the local franchise for Renault. After that Tom set up his own motor business, which he ran at his home on the Borrisokane Road for several successful years. In 1990 he purchased land on the Old Birr Road where he built the present garage and had the official opening on November 2nd 1990.
Tom had built up a reputation as a Renault specialist and sold a great number
of the French manufactured cars. But in 1991 he was introduced to a whole new world of motors while attending the launch of the Renault Clio at the RDS
in Dublin. After seeing the hitherto unknown Hyundai, Tom was invited to open a dealership in Nenagh. This became another highly successful enterprise, in which the Nenagh man was only the third Hyundai dealer appointed in the country. He made his first sale in Nenagh within six weeks of taking on the Korean dealership.
Moyles Garage Ltd is no longer a main Hyundai dealer but they still continue to specialise in the sale of new Hyundai cars across the entire range. Customers can also avail of secondhand cars across a wide range of other makes and models.
The Old Birr Road garage offers a complete vehicle service and repair schedule. Fully certified by the Road Safety Authority, it specialises in CVRT (Commercial
Vehicle Roadworthiness Testing) for commercial vehicles. This is a particularly busy arm of the business at present and customers are encouraged to book early. CVRT tests can be carried out up to 4 weeks before their due date. Moyles Garage Ltd also specialises in preparing private vehicles for the National
Car Test (NCT). All of the highly experienced staff regularly partake in continuing professional development (CPD) courses, some of which are run by the RSA. Tom’s son Leo joined the company over 20 years ago. Leo has become an integral part of the day to day running of the business. In more recent years Tom has also been joined by his daughter Majella.
Long-time employees at the garage also include Clive Moynan and Bernard Connors.
In celebrating their 25th anniversary on the Old Birr Road, the Moyles family are looking forward to continued success into the future, including plans for a facelift of the premises. They would like to thank all of their customers for their loyalty and support down through the years.
