Council ponders pedestrianisation of Nenagh streets
Nenagh Municipal District Council is considering the pedestrianisation of some streets in Nenagh.
The issue was discussed at last month's meeting of the council, at which Cllr Hughie McGrath (Ind) called for a better presentation of streets like Friary Lane, Abbey St and O'Rahilly St. He wanted better public lighting in these areas. Cllr McGrath also asked the council to consider an initiative for encouraging the use of lanes in the town, as has been done in places like Kilkenny.
Director of Services Marcus O'Connor agreed and pointed out that enhancement works have taken place at Glebe Lane. The council would like to pedestrianise certain streets in the town, even if only a trial basis, he said.
Cllr McGrath said the council also needs to reconsider the sequencing of the traffic lights at Market Cross. Mr O'Connor said a report on proposals for a new traffic plan for Nenagh would be presented at the council's next meeting.
