Go-ahead for caravan park in Ballinderry
Tipperary Co Council has granted conditional planning permission for the expansion of a caravan & camping park at Ballinderry.
Sean O'Meara plans to demolish an existing agricultural shed and expand the existing caravan & camping park at Stonepark.
The development will involve the addition of four touring pitches, four fully serviced static pitches & ancillary landscaped open space area; the construction of a shower block bin store, laundry room and covered walkway adjacent the existing toilet block; construction of a site storage shed; installation of wastewater treatment system with associated percolation area, and all ancillary site works.
The council considers the plan a modest expansion of a small holiday caravan park, increasing the number of permanent static caravan sites from six to 10 and providing four touring caravan pitches. It will assist in enhancing the tourist offer within the Lough Derg area and is in line with the council's policies and objectives of promoting the lake as a major tourism resource in conjunction with Fáilte Ireland and associated bodies.
Among the conditions imposed, the council ruled that the site can only be used for short term holiday accommodation and not for permanent residential accommodation. The number of static and touring caravans accommodated at the site is not to exceed that stated in the application.
The council has also stipulated that any site lighting is to be directed inward towards the site. The developer is to provide directional hoods or other cut-off devices to ensure the lights do not shine onto adjoining property or provide a hazard to road users.
