Tipperary Players Rewarded for Outstanding Season

What has been a momumental year for Tipperary GAA has been topped off in impressive fashion in the last week.

It has been one of the most successful years for Tipperary in recent memory, with the Senior and Minor hurlers winning All-Ireland honours - along with the Senior Footballers who reached their first All-Ireland semi-final since 1935.

In both hurling and football a total of 20 players have received All-Star nominations for the upcoming awards ceremony - with the entire team that started the hurling final against Kilkenny in September being nominated for the first time ever - with the footballers receiving five nominations.

Tipperary also have a number of players up for Hurler of the Year and Young Footballer of the Year awards.

In hurling, Seamus Callanan and Padraig Maher are in the running for Hurler of the Year and face competition for the accolade from Waterford's Austin Gleeson - while Josh Keane and Jimmy Feehan have been shortlisted for Young Footballer of the Year and are up against Mayo's Diarmuid O'Connor for the award.

The All Star team will be selected next month by a panel of national Gaelic Games correspondents, while the Players of the Year awards will be voted on by the players themselves.

Yesterday brought more positives for the year, with the news that Nenagh man Andrew Coffey fought off stiff competition, to be named at wing-forward on the U21 team of the year.
