Application Lodged for North Tipp Solar Farm
A planning application has been lodged for a large solar farm beside the M7 near Roscrea.
Island Green Power Solar 8 Ltd is proposing to build the controversial development on a 58-hectare site at Leonard's Bog, The Sheehy's, Derrymore.
It is to consist of the installation of a 30-year operation and subsequent decommissioning of a series of ground mounted solar photovoltaic PV panels, mounted on steel support structures 3m in height, together with a single-storey ESB control room and 25 electrical transformation enclosures, among other features.
It is understood that the €30 million project will have 120,000 solar panels in total and a capacity of 25MW.
Island Green Power presented the plan in Knock last summer, during which many local residents voiced concerns over the solar farm, which is to be located beside the large wind farm at Monaincha.
Tipperary Co Council is to issue a decision on the application by December 4th.
