'Revenge for Dwyer and the Ragg' - Ormond Historical Society
The Ormond Historical Society December lecture will take place at the Abbey Court Hotel on Monday December 5th at 8.30pm with speaker John Connors.
‘Revenge for Dwyer and the Ragg’ looks at the story of RIC Sgt Anthony Foody, who was killed in his native Mayo shortly after being demobbed from the RIC. This tale of bloody retribution highlights the predicament of many retiring RIC men in post colonial Ireland as they sought to rebuild new lives for themselves and their families.
John Connors has travelled extensively in Ireland, speaking with relatives of Sgt Foody as he reconstructed the story of this man’s demise. John Connors is a member of Borrisoleigh Historical Society and has a keen interest in the 1919-1923 period in Irish history. He has lectured frequently on events in Tipperary during the War of Independence/Civil War and also has published articles on these events.
We would like to remind members who haven’t yet paid subscriptions for 2016-17 that subscriptions are now due and may be paid on the night of the lecture.
