New year table quiz for Friends of Nenagh Hospital

The Friends of Nenagh Hospital are delighted to announce that they have been chosen as the charity to benefit from the Brian Hogan Celtic Supporters Club Nenagh Annual Table Quiz on New Year’s Day 2017.

This popular annual event, in memory of the late Brian Hogan from Knockalton, is now in its 19th year and it has donated over €20,000 to local charities since its inception.

As a registered charity, the Friends of Nenagh Hospital receive generous contributions through donations, collections and bequests from organisations - both local and further afield - members of the public, and families of the recently deceased. On their behalf, we provide assistance and comforts to patients of Nenagh hospital and their families, while offering support and aid to the hospital management and staff, as they ensure an effective delivery of services to the community. All funds are used for the benefit of Nenagh hospital in accordance with our constitution and all committee members are volunteers and do not receive payments from the charities funds.

Monies received through donations, collections and bequests allow the Friends of Nenagh Hospital to carry out its work and we are very grateful for this support. These monies have recently permitted us to buy a dermatology machine for the Nenagh hospital at a cost of €31,400. An advantage of having this machine in Nenagh hospital is that users of the machine from North Tipperary will not now have to travel to overcrowded hospital facilities in Limerick City to receive similar treatment.

Our latest project, one that we have agreed to part underwrite with the HSE, is the opening of a cardiac failure unit in the hospital. It is hoped that this unit will be opened in the near future at a cost to the Friends of €37,000.

Once again, patients from North Tipperary will not be required to travel to Limerick hospitals to avail of treatment when this unit is opened. The installation of a public broadband service in the hospital is being currently discussed and will be financed by the Friends of Nenagh Hospital at a cost of almost €4,500. This will provide patients and visitors to the hospital with access to the internet through their smart devices such as mobile phones and iPads. These are just some of the recent supports we have been able to bring to Nenagh hospital through the monies we receive.

We are asking members of the public to show their support for this event by participating in this New Year’s Day table quiz, in what has become a major event in the Nenagh social calendar over the New Year period. The quiz starts at 3pm approximately in Philly Ryan’s, Silver St, Nenagh and there will be a raffle with a wide variety of prizes on offer on the day. Tom Kennelly, the proprietor, will also be providing food for those that attend and an enjoyable afternoon is assured.

Tables at the quiz cost €20 for a table of four and tables can be bought in advance by contacting Noreen at 087-9584274.
