Drink driving warning for New Year weekend

Gardaí are reminding motorists that checkpoints have been stepped up over the Christmas period and this will continue over the coming days. Several drink driving arrests have been made in December and two more were made in the early hours of last Tuesday. These include a male arrested on suspicion of drink driving at Pearse St, Nenagh, at 3.20am on Tuesday. Another male was arrested on suspicion of drink driving at Ryninch Upper, Ballina, at 4.20am.

 

Gardaí are also warning people that drunken and disorderly behaviour will not be tolerated after five arrests were made under the Public Order Act in the Nenagh district in recent days. Among these was a male arrested on Nenagh's Dublin road at 6pm on Christmas Day.

Meanwhile gardaí investigating the alleged assault of a youth in Nenagh on Christmas Eve. An incident reportedly took place in the Ard Cruidín housing estate at Tyone. A male youth sustained serious facial injuries.

 

Gardaí are also investigating the breaking of a car window at Ballygraigue Court on Christmas night. Around €100 worth of damage was caused when the back window of the car was broken.

 

 

Elsewhere, criminal damage was caused to a car parked outside a public house on Sarsfield St on Wednesday night of last week.

 

A car was stolen from the Millersbrook housing estate overnight last Friday/Saturday. It is reported that entry was gained to a house in the estate and a wallet was stolen along with the car key. The vehicle has not been recovered.

 

Gardaí are also investigating the theft of a laptop from a car in the Melrose estate around the same time period.
