Red light for Three tower
Tipperary Co Council has refused planning permission for a telecommunications structure outside Roscrea.
Three Ireland (Hutchinson) Ltd had sought permission for the construction of a 27m high telecommunications support structure at Timoney, Knock. It was intended that the structure would carry antennae and transmission dishes. Associated equipment units, security fencing and an access track was also included in the plan.
The council received several submissions on the plan, including one from the Irish Aviation Authority. Following a request for further information, the council refused permission for the development.
It considered that the subject site was located on a “poorly aligned roadway” and was not satisfied with sightlines. The council considered that the development could endanger public safety by reason of traffic hazard.
Furthermore, the council took the view that the structure and security fencing “would be dominant and visually obtrusive in the receiving landscape. It is considered that the proposed development, if permitted, would impact upon the existing visual amenities and landscape character of the area.”
