Nenagh-Thurles road plan on display

Submissions and observations are being invited on the long-sought plan to realign the main Nenagh-Thurles road at Latteragh.

Tipperary Co Council intends to improve the R498 in the following townlands: Currabaha, Glenmore Lower, Gurteen, Garrane, Bigpark, Sallypark, Curragh, Carrick (Maunsell) and Carrick (Dawson) in the Electoral Districts of Latteragh, Kilnaneave and Glenkeen.

The proposed road development will be comprised of the following elements: Widening and realignment of the existing R498 regional road for approximately 4.3km to a Type 2 single carriageway road – including 7.0m carriageway road, two 0.5m hard strips and two grass verges, generally 2.5m wide; Provision of a shared footway/cycleway 2.0m wide along the length of the improved R498; four at grade junctions; Excavation of the existing road or part of it; Excavation of land adjacent to the existing road.

Further proposed elements include: Construction of a new road; Construction of two clear span river bridges over the Nenagh River; Construction of culverts; Construction of drainage works incorporating Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS); Earthworks including excavation of unacceptable roadworks material; Disposal/recovery of unacceptable roadworks material.

Utility diversions, pavement and road markings, access and accommodation works, ancillary road works and traffic management, are also provided for in the plan.

The development has been the subject of an appropriate assessment screening, which concluded that the proposed development would not be likely to give rise to significant or indeterminate impacts on any Natura site. The council advises that an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) screening process was carried out and it was determined that the scheme would not have a significant effect on the environment.

Plans and particulars of the proposed development are available for inspection or purchase at the Civic Offices in Nenagh up until Friday June 9th (between the hours of 9.30am and 4.30pm, Mondays to Fridays). A copy of the plans and particulars may also be viewed on the Tipperary County Council website, www.tipperarycoco.ie.

Submissions or observations may be made in writing to Director of Services Marcus O'Connor at the Civic Offices, or by emailing R498Latteragh@tipperarycoco.ie. The deadline for submissions/observations is 4.30pm on Friday June 23rd.
