UNPRECEDENTED DEMAND RESULTS IN ADDITIONAL CAPACITY FOR WOMEN'S RUGBY WORLD CUP
With just two months to go until the Women's Rugby World Cup gets underway unprecedented demand for tickets has resulted in additional capacity being added to the UCD Bowl, increasing the UCD venues to over 16,000 for the three match days.
The additional capacity will allow more people to attend the opening game of the tournament on August 9th, where England will take on Spain, before USA play Italy and then hosts, Ireland, get their campaign under way against Australia at 7pm that evening. The additional capacity will also allow more people attend when Ireland will return to the Bowl on match day two (Sunday 13th August) and three (Thursday 17th August) to face Japan and France.
Tournament organisers expect that additional tickets will also sell fast, and urged those wanting to experience the excitement of a World Cup, and watch the world's top female rugby players, to secure their tickets as soon as possible.
Women's Rugby World Cup 2017 pool games will take place in two venues in UCD, The UCD Bowl and UCD Billings Park, on the 9th, 13th and 17th August, and additional capacity is being added to the Bowl after all three match days at the ground sold out. Match day two and three at Billings Park are sold out, and additional capacity may be added to this ground also.
Tickets for each venue, which start at just €5 for children and €15 for adults, provide access to all three games scheduled for that venue each day.
Announcing the additional seating, Garrett Tubridy, Tournament Director, Women's Rugby World Cup 2017 said
'When we marked 100 days to go we advised people to get their tickets fast, and sure enough people moved quick. Having sold out the Bowl on all days, and Billings Park on two Match Days, we re-visited our plans to see how we can meet the ongoing demand. We are building additional capacity at the Bowl to meet that demand and those tickets are being released to general sale today. It's great to see that the Tournament is capturing the imagination of the public and this is being reflected in demand for tickets.
We are still looking at Billings Park but will have more news on that in the coming days.
As expected, demand from Ireland is particularly strong, and those who are not lucky, or quick enough, to secure a ticket for one of Ireland's pool games can buy tickets for the Semi-finals day and Finals days in Kinspan Stadium, where Ireland will play each day – either in one of the marquee matches or their ranking match, depending on where they rank after the Pool Stages.
