Councillor John Carroll elected to the position of Vice Chair of the HSE West Health Forum.
The Nenagh district member of Tipperary Co Council was elected at last week's meeting of the forum in Galway. Cllr Carroll was proposed by his colleague Cllr Francis Foley from Limerick and was seconded by Cllr Keith Henry from Sligo.
Cllr Carroll has represented Tipperary County Council on the HSE West Health Forum since June 2009 and is an energetic promoter of new policy formulation at the HSE forum meetings, which involve nine counties stretching from Donegal to Clare and Limerick.
The Fianna Faíl councillor stated that his key priorities will be working aggressively at HSE level to help reduce the waiting lists at University Hospital Limerick, and to give back a degree of respect to the patient, which has sadly been lost over the past number of years.
Other priorities are working to improve the operation of the fair deal scheme, improvements in the provision of home care packages and home help hours, and to highlight the very long waiting lists and times for medical procedures that are a cause of much concern across urban and rural Tipperary.
The HSE West Health Forum meets every month at Merlin Park in Galway to discuss elected members' questions and motions from each of the nine county councils, with each council represented by three elected members.
