Gardaí investigating Nenagh van attack
Gardaà are investigating an incident in which a man was reportedly knocked down by a van and attacked by a number of people in Nenagh.
The incident occurred in the Yewston housing estate over the August bank holiday weekend. A young local man was hospitalised with multiple injuries. He has since been discharged from hospital.
Gardaà in Nenagh say the incident is being investigated and a file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Elsewhere a multi-agency search operation took place in the Borrisokane area last week after a local woman was reported missing on Wednesday. A garda helicopter was joined by the Valentia based Irish Coast Guard rescue helicopter and Tipperary Civil Defence in a search that lasted for several hours. The operation had a successful outcome when the woman was found on Thursday evening.
Gardaà say they are following a definite line of inquiry into the theft of a large number of items from the Tippo factory site at Kilkeary, which is currently being rebuilt. A number of intruders broke into the site over the bank holiday weekend and stole tools, pumps and other items. The intruders also attempted to move teleporter machines at the construction site.
Another burglary was reported at Mountfalcon, Borrisokane, on Wednesday of last week. Two racing bikes were stolen. There was an attempt to break into a van at Derrylavin Heights, Nenagh, last Tuesday week but nothing was taken.
Several seizures of illegal drugs have been made in the Nenagh district over recent days. Among them, an individual was arrested in possession of five bags of cannabis in Nenagh town last Friday while three bags of cannabis were seized in Roscrea on Thursday. Files are being prepared for the DPP in both cases.
Newport gardaà assisted Limerick officers in an operation that led to the seizure of around €2,000 worth of cannabis at Kilmacanogue on Tuesday of last week.
Gardaà in Roscrea are investigating an allegation of rape. It is understood that a complaint was made last Sunday night and that the alleged injured party is a young male.
Roscrea gardaà also arrested a male on suspicion of drink driving last Friday. The man is aged in his 80s.
In Nenagh, gardaà made an arrest under the Public Order Act at Yewston in the early hours of last Monday week. A car crash at the Tullaheady roundabout outside Nenagh, which occurred during the same night, is also being investigated. There were no serious injuries in the accident.
A female was arrested after gardaà responded to a number of reports of a disturbance at Coille Bheithe, Nenagh, last Friday night. Gardaà are also investigating a reported domestic dispute in Borrisokane on Sunday evening last. A woman was taken to hospital after the incident.
Meanwhile, gardaà say they are clamping down on illegal taxi drivers in the Nenagh district. A driver who was operating a taxi without a licence was stopped in the district last weekend. Â
An operation against unlicensed taxis is underway involving local gardaà and the Thurles based Traffic Corps. Gardaà are warning that action will be taken against anyone found operating a taxi illegally. Passengers in such vehicles are warned that they are not covered by insurance should anything go wrong.
