Leukaemia awareness day at University Hospital Limerick

Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML) is a slow-growing cancer of immature white blood cells. It is a rare cancer with about 45 people diagnosed with it in Ireland each year. CML can be well controlled by medication which requires patients in this region to attend for regular clinic appointments with the Haematology services at the Mid-Western Cancer Centre.

 

A patient information meeting has been held in The Cancer Information and Support Centre  University Hospital Limerick to mark World CML Day and to raise awareness of CML. An Update on CML by Dr Chris Armstrong, Specialist Registrar in Haematology, and “Living Well With CML” by Fidelma Hackett, Clinical Nurse Specialist in Haematology were presented. It was well attended and was a great patient information opportunity and an opportunity for peer support for these patients.
