'SWARE' project activity continues for Tipperary Co Council

Tipperary County Council is a partner in the EU INTERREG EUROPE part-funded SWARE project which is examining how to foster better integrated management of natural and cultural heritage within inland waterway regions in order to create an improved balance between the protection and sustainable exploitation for sustainable tourism purposes of natural resources and built heritage sites along waterway routes.

As part of its activity in the project, the Council recently put its draft Green & Blue Infrastructure Masterplan Roadmap for Tipperary Waterways out for public consultation (see http://www.tipperarycoco.ie/news/public-consultation-on-draft-green-and-blue-infrastructure-masterplan-roadmap-tipperary).

The Masterplan Roadmap is a strategic plan focusing on the two primary waterways in County Tipperary – Lough Derg and River Suir. The objective is to develop an integrated plan incorporating for example, biodiversity, heritage, tourism, sport, leisure, water eco-system management, communities and economy to provide a cooperative strategic plan for our county’s waterways. Comments and feedback on the draft can be forwarded to greenandblue@tipperarycoco.ie. The consultation period will conclude on Friday November 10th 2017.

In recent months project staff and stakeholders from the Council  have taken part in the project’s seond and third inter-regional Knowledge Exchange Sessions in Milan and La Hague, which were looking at the challenges in connecting tourism with infrastructures and heritage and the marketing and development of destinations. Earlier this year, the Council hosted a delegation from the project partners in Tipperary for the first Knowledge Exchange Session.

The project will conclude later next year with each partner developing an Action Plan for implementation in its area, taking account of the learning and good practice exchange in the earlier parts of the project.
