Halloween fireworks display in Nenagh

A Halloween night fireworks extravaganza is to take place at the CBS grounds in Nenagh.

Commencing at 7.30pm next Tuesday, the extended fireworks display will also feature pre-show entertainment. All are welcome to attend and join in the fun in fancy dress costume. There is an entry charge of €2, which can be paid at the gate.

The fireworks display will bring to a close this year's 'Spleodar' Halloween arts festival, which features a wide-ranging programme of entertainment beginning this Saturday. Spleodar has been presenting its community arts festival over the October Bank Holiday weekend for the past 17 years but this year is billed as its most ambitious festival yet, filled with some amazing shows and workshops across many art forms.

You can find details of times for all shows and events at www.spleodar.ie or www.nenagharts.com, or by phoning Nenagh arts Centre at (067) 34400.

The Spleodar festival features a variety of events for kids of all ages and interests.

Starting on Saturday October 29th, UK based ‘Graffiti Classics’ bring a wickedly funny and fantastically exhilarating blend of classical music, gypsy-folk romp, an opera, and stand-up comedy set all rolled into one! The show promises to have kids dancing in their seats.

Oscar-nominated company Cartoon Saloon will be hosting two workshops with one of their leading animators from the ‘Song of The Sea’, providing each child with a greater understanding of the movie making process and the basic tools required for a beginner to discover a career in animation.

On Sunday, Cork Company Broken Crow Theatre present two performances of their adaptation of the much loved book and film ‘The Secret Garden’. An orphaned little girl, a hundred locked doors, a friendly robin and many secrets waiting to be told, all brought to life on stage and suitable for all over 7 years old. Performers Katie Honan, Jack Healy and Julie Sharkey will bring you on an enchanting journey through this tale of loneliness, secrets, friendship.

On Sunday evening, join us on Banba Square for the beginning of ‘Samhain and the Parade of Light’, led by a Druid on giant stag followed by a troupe of drummers and Celtic Warriors. Follow them up Kickham Street and into the Courthouse Carpark where they will re-enact a tale as old as time itself when the spirits and the living celebrate in a 30-minute performance through traditional music, song and dance.

Come along on Monday to a new puppet and live action show, ‘This Little Pig’. All the straw and stick homes have long gone. A pig family, Sausage, Rasher, and Little Pig, live happily in a comfortable brick house. Unlike the older fearful pigs, Little Pig longs to escape the confines of their brick home and go on adventure. Who knows what awaits him on the other side of the wall? ‘This Little Pig’ is aimed for kids aged 5 or older but one all the family will truly enjoy.

The Treasure Hunt is back by popular demand with an exciting new set of clues and a time to discover something new about Nenagh, starting off at Nenagh Arts Centre.

We have a wide variety of event, which we hope will interest kids from tots to teens, including woodturning, pottery making, cupcake decorating, web design with HTML coding, cartoon drawing 'as Gaeilge agus Béarla', and a creative writing workshop for 10 to 13-year olds.

The festival will conclude on Tuesday October 31st with the extended fireworks display and pre-show in the grounds of Nenagh CBS.
