Lakeside house sold at auction

A large house with magnificent views over Lough Derg sold for €850,000 at an auction last Thursday.

Garryurra, Urra, Ballycommon, had been advertised for auction by BidX1 with a reserve range of €850,000 to €900,000. Described by the auctioneer as an “arts & craft style house”, the dwelling has four bedrooms and extends to approximately 395 square metres (4,251 square feet).

The house is situated on 4.2 hectares (10.4 acres). Features include CCTV and alarms, hand-built kitchen and study furniture, oil-fired Aga with gas and electric module, oil-fired central heating, American Hickory flooring, central vacuum system and electric automatic gates. It also has a private bay with a 10-foot deep stone-walled quay and boat slipway.

Once part of the nearby St David's Estate, the house was completely re-built between 2000 and 2002. It had been in vacant possession.

Used by previous owners as a holiday home, it had appeared on the market last year with an asking price of €1.495 million.

Formerly known as Allsop Ireland, BidX1 is Ireland's largest auction company. A spokesperson this week confirmed that Garryurra was acquired by an Irish buyer.
