North Tipp schools collide in Munster Camogie final
St Mary's Convent Nenagh and Borrisokane Community College will meet in the Munster Junior 'B' Camogie final in Dolla this Saturday 20th January at 2.00pm.
It is novel that the neighbouring schools will meet in the final and this should arouse interest from all camogie supporters in the area.
On the way to the final, St Mary's beat Carrick-on-Suir CBS and Kinsale Community School in the group stages before going onto have a great win over a very strong Clonakilty side in the Munster semi-final. This match was played in Cork and went all the way to the wire with St Mary's coming out on top in extra time.
As a result of winning the All Ireland Junior 'C' title in 2017, the Borrisokane Community College were promoted to the ‘B’ grade in Junior for 2018 and to date have represented themselves very well. The team had a tremendous victory over St. Mary’s Newport in the opening round. Hazelwood College, Dromcollogher provided the opposition for the next game where Borrisokane came away with a convincing victory, 5-14 to 3-7.
The team approached the final group game with an air of confidence when they travelled to Cahir to play Sacred Heart Clonakilty, however in very difficult playing conditions the talented Cork side defeated Borrisokane 2-9 to 1-6.
Borrisokane faced Scoil Mhuire from Carrick on Suir in the quarter final with Borrisokane securing victory in the final quarter to win 3-7 to 3-1. The Munster semi-final was played in UL against Laurel Hill from Limerick. This was a keenly contested game with Borrisokane just holding on to win by the narrowest of margins.
Nenagh and Borrisokane also met in this seasons Munster 7 aside final with the Nenagh girls shading it at the end. So a very exciting match is expected between these two very skilful teams on Saturday.
