Submissions over Nenagh street closure

Tipperary Co Council has received submissions over the planned closure of Nenagh's Ormond St to facilitate wastewater rehabilitation works.

The council is proposing to close the road from March 5th to 16th. But at last week's meeting of Nenagh Municipal District, Cllr Seamus Morris (Ind) said closing the road for two weeks would mean the businesses on Ormond St and Summerhill would also have to close. He asked if it is necessary to close the whole street.

Cllr Ger Darcy (FG) had also received representations over Ormond St. He agreed that local businesses have already “had their share” of disruption.

Director Marcus O'Connor said the works would take a lot longer than two weeks if the street is not fully closed. But he said the council would go through the submissions before making a formal decision on the matter.

Meanwhile, Mr O'Connor said the contractor working on the footpaths in Tyone would begin the road resurfacing there immediately afterward. Bad weather has hampered the council's street resurfacing plan but the work will be proceeding as soon as possible, he said.
