Nenagh Ormond RFC host SafeTalk Workshop

Suicide is one of the major issues affecting our young people. While there is a growing national dialogue around mental health and wellbeing, people in Ireland remain hesitant to talk openly about their own mental health, and misperceptions about suicidal behaviour persist.

As part of our ongoing commitment to the welfare of our players and the Nenagh Ormond RFC family, the club’s Juvenile section hosted a Safe Talk Workshop in the Abbey Court Hotel, Nenagh, on Thursday March 8th last.

The workshop is designed to improve understanding of and attitudes to suicidal behaviour, mental health and wellbeing among coaches, parents and all those in contact with vulnerable young people. The workshop prepares participants to identify persons with thoughts of suicide and connect them to suicide first aid resources. While we hope that the club is never effected by suicide, it is important that we are trained and prepared for such an eventuality.

The workshop was well attended by parents and coaches of Juvenile players. Facilitated by Mary Kennedy of the HSE, participants found the workshop to be very informative and a rewarding experience.
