Call for appointment of garda superintendent in Nenagh
Tipperary councillor John Carroll (FF) has expressed his disappointment at the “very long delay” in appointing a superintendent for the Nenagh Garda District.
Cllr Carroll has stated that the Nenagh Garda District is one of the biggest districts throughout the country, stretching from the Galway and Offaly borders to the Limerick border, and also taking in the Roscrea district.
“I am disappointed that the previous superintendent has retired since early September 2017 and, to date, no appointment has been made,” Cllr Carroll said. “I am concerned that the Government are sending out the wrong message with regards insufficient policing to police this very large garda district, as we are already very low in garda numbers across the district, which is a cause of great concern for the general public at a time when rural crime is ever-increasing throughout the county,” Cllr Carroll stated.
