Mooring plan for Ballina

Tipperary Co Council is proposing to construct a public floating mooring at Ballina.

The development involves provision of a floating bank-side jetty on the eastern bank of the River Shannon, primarily for recreational boat use on the Shannon. The instream floating mooring structure will be 15m in length and parallel to the existing fitted jetty. The mooring will be connected to the land by a 10m gangway.

The following works are to take place on the eastern bank of the river upstream of the Killaloe bridge: Insertion of three 255mm piles to support new floating jetty; construction of new 10m access gangway to connect to main jetty via a new floating landing platform (approximately 6m in length). The gangway will connect to land through a new steel access platform; the existing fixed jetty is to be retained and paving stones to be lifted, levelled and relayed.

The proposed development has been the subject of an 'Appropriate Assessment' screening in accordance with the EU Habitats Directive. This along with all other plans and particulars of the proposal can be inspected at the council's Civic Offices in Nenagh up until May 21st. Submissions or observations can be made until June 5th.
