People with disabilities in Tipperary to benefit from investment in respite services - Byrne

People with disabilities in Tipperary are to benefit from new Government investment in respite services, a Fine Gael Senator has said.

 

Senator Maria Byrne announced that the Government funded Respite Development Programme for 2018 will mean additional services for the Mid-West.

 

For Limerick, Clare and North Tipperary it will mean new additional Residential respite across HSE funded organisations which include; Brothers of Charity - Limerick (Adults), Enable Ireland - Eden Lodge (children - ID/ASD) – Clare, RehabCare - Cairdeas (Adults) – Limerick, RehabCare - Red House (Children) – Limerick, Rehab Care - Carrow House (Children - ASD/High Support) - North Tipperary.

 

“There is an expansion of community based delivery of in-home support and the expansion of day Respite Sessions: including weekend clubs/social clubs/summer camp in the West Limerick Children's Services Butterfly Club,” she said.

 

“Today’s announcement is designed to help people with disabilities in Tipperary to lead more independent lives and to have more of a say in their care.

 

“It is also hugely important that carers look after their own health and well-being, and ensuring we have proper respite services in Tipperary is crucial to that.

 

“This €10 investment in respite care nationally, is additional to the respite services the HSE has already committed to provide as part of its National Service Plan 2018. This plan targets the provision of more than 45,500 day places and 182,500 overnight for more than 6,320 people with a disability who avail of these services.”
