Cawley rising up the Soccer ranks
Nenagh native Hazel Cawley has had a hugely successful first year with her new club Peamount United in Dublin.
Peamount have won both the Under 15 Premier Division MGL League & Cup. Hazel was also player of the match in the MGL Cup final on Sunday.
Hazel, from Tobar Mhuire in Nenagh and who used to play her local soccer with Knigh United, moved to Peamount United earlier this season and trains three nights a week with a match on Sundays and has played at a very high standard. She has represented her club in the UK and played the USA Olympic team and a Canadian side too.
She was selected for the MGL U15 Academy and captained the side at the U16 Viking Cup in Waterford earlier this year, having played the same tournament with North Tipperary the previous year where she was chosen as one of the team of the tournament. She also selected on the North Munster Emerging Talent Programme this season and had a terrific season with them where she captained that side at a recent regional Emerging Talent Programme blitz in Dublin.
She was receptient of an ETB Sports award from Nenagh College at the beginning of the school year and She also received an award from the school at the end of this year in recognition of her sporting achievements. She sure is one busy lady but manages it all very well.
Hazel will soon have a short break from soccer but will be back on the field with Peamount United in preparation for the Women's National Under-17 League in July, the first national underage women's league in Ireland.
We certainly will be watching out for this local girl.
