Available summer months unlikely to provide club championship fare
With Tipperary having exited the senior hurling championship at their earliest point since 1999, it should mean the local club championship enjoying a higher profile over the now extended summer months.
However, it is unlikely the club championships at senior and intermediate level will recommence until late July at the earliest following a decision made at a County Board meeting earlier in the year.
With the new format for the inter-county championship allowing club championship games to be played in April, the County CCC informed clubs that in an effort to provide an element of certainty for clubs and players, it wouldn’t recommence until late July, allowing players and club managers to make plans in terms of taking holidays and other events.
This was done on the premise that Tipperary would get out of the Munster Championship and at least reach an All Ireland quarter final in mid July. However, that is now no longer the case, leaving a considerable period of time of six weeks until a possible restart date.
However, County CCC are unlikely to revisit a possible change in bringing forward the restart while the Tipperary senior footballers are still in championship action, as they take on Mayo on June 23rd, and if they are successful would have another game the following weekend, while the county’s under 21 hurlers face Limerick in a Munster semi-final two days earlier.
