Under 21 progress impacts restart dates for championships
Tipperary County Board provisional dates for the restart of the senior and intermediate championships in both hurling and football have been impacted by the progress of the county’s under 21 hurlers in reaching an All Ireland semi-final.
The group stages of the county championship were due recommence on the weekend of 28-29 July with round 2, with the second round of the football championship on 4-5 August, with rounds 3 of both championships running on the weekends beyond that.
However, both have now been put back after the Tipperary under 21's guaranteed an All Ireland semi-final following their win in the Munster semi-final against Limerick last Thursday. They will play Cork in the Munster semi-final on Wednesday 4th July, however, a change in the format sees both Munster and Leinster finalists straight through to the All Ireland semi-finals which is down for the August Bank Holiday weekend.
Round 2 of the County senior and intermediate hurling championship will now restart on weekend 11-12 August, with the football on the following weekend if Tipperary fail to reach the under 21 final. However, if they do, two more club weekends could be lost leading to a rushed finish to the club championships.
