INAUGURAL ROSCREA RUGBY ACADEMY DEEMED GREAT SUCCESS

The inaugural Roscrea Rugby Academy, which took place from Sunday 1st July to Friday 6th July, has been acclaimed as a great success by the organisers.

Delivered by partners RugbyCamps.ie and PSA Academies, the high-performance camp was the first major residential rugby camp of the summer season in Ireland and the first delivered in the surroundings of the historic Cistercian College venue.  With exceptional levels of interest seeing 86 young players of between 10 to 17 years of age attending from around the country, the academy programme gave these players a fantastic rugby and personal development experience in exceptional weather at the Co. Tipperary venue.

Amongst the many highlights, the players enjoyed;

  • Daily assessment and skill development sessions on the pitch and in the gym under the guidance of Programme Directors John Taylor and ex-Munster star Johne Murphy, plus coaches Tyrone Elliott, Alan Tynan, Joe Walsh, Ben Daly and Cathal Duff
  • High performance talks from leading external experts that included Titan Wellness ambassador and ex-Munster player Jonny Holland (Sports Nutrition), Titan Wellness ambassador and ex-Munster player Cathal Sheridan (Mental Wellbeing) and Tipperary GAA team doctor Dr. Brendan Murphy (Sports Concussion and Injury Prevention)
  • A Q&A and coaching session with ex-CCR pupils and current professional rugby players with Connacht Rugby and Zebre respectively, Sean O’Brien and Ciaran Gaffney

Speaking at the conclusion of the five day camp, ex-Munster player and RugbyCamps.ie/PSA Academies Head Coach Johne Murphy said "We were delighted with how the inaugural Roscrea Rugby Academy went. We had an exceptional group of talented young players in attendance, the weather gods smiled on us and we were able to deliver a really high-quality programme at a fantastic venue, featuring our partners and some exceptional guest speakers. There are many people who played their part in making the camp such a success and we’d like to thank them for all their input and hard work. We’re now looking forward to our next Irish camp in Kilkenny in August and growing both camps in 2019, continuing to set the bar in quality for rugby development residential rugby camp experiences.
