Exhibition by Borrisokane artist in Portumna

'Fruits of Labour' is the title of a very interesting exhbition by Borrisokane woman Kathleen Darcy which is taking place in Portumna Castle and Gardens from from this Friday, July 13th-27th.
Kathleen is a graduate of Limerick School of Art and Design. She creates abstract paintings using Indian inks and natural dyes made from plants, berries and flowers that she picks from the hedgerows.
She incorporates Irish poetry, prose and folklore using shorthand and calligraphic script to pay homage to the Irish landscape.
This exhibition has been created in honour of the farmers, workers and farm hands that have studied and maintained the hedgerows that outline the Irish landscape.Their knowledge of the flora and fauna has influenced Irish folklore, myths, and medical remedies.
The exhibit is sympathetic to the Irish hedgerows and boglands that are rapidly disappearing due to modern day intensive farm practices and through the art work, encourages a renewed appreciation of this unique landscape.
