Guilfoyle Derby defence begins

Derby fever has gripped the greyhound world this week and it is difficult to believe that it is almost twelve months since our very own hero Good News claimed his stunning success in the 2017 renewal.

Of course, it had been hoped that the wonderful Pat Guilfoyle superstar would be present to defend his title but with injury dictating a premature racing retirement, the affectionately named Will is instead enjoying a new career at stud and proving very popular amongst breeders.

In his absence, the 2018 Boylesports.com Irish Greyhound Derby began with ten first round heats on Friday but it was the Saturday session of thirteen heats where the kennel that still retains the Derby crown in Moneygall, gave notice of their intent to fervently battle to keep the prestigious title in our racing community.

Contesting the first Saturday heat, Cabra Hurricane was making his reappearance since victorious in the Longford Derby in July but he would show no signs of rust in a dominant performance.
