Bill Mullaney

Management at a loss to explain second half slump

By Rose Mannion

I’m still scratching my head on that one,” admitted Tipperary manager Bill Mullaney long after his sides defeat to Down.

Commenting later in the evening after the senior side were also defeated in the All Ireland semi-final, the Newport/Ballinahinch clubman was disappointed with the outcome having led for so long.

After a great first half performance where Tipp led 1-7 to 0-4 at the break and looked in control such was the performance they were serving up, but Mullaney had no answer to what had happened in the second half..

Well if they were too confident they weren’t allowed to be by us, that was in their own heads,” he said.

We just didn’t come out and perform in the second half, we just went flat all of a sudden so I’m finding it hard to explain it but Down are a very good team as well.

That said and I don’t want to sound arrogant about it but I really thought we would have progressed out of it, but that’s hurling and that’s life,” he said.
