Roscrea discover they still have a way to go

Clonoulty/Rossmore 1-22

Roscrea 2-8

Coming into the game with the plenty of optimism following their win over Mullinahone in the previous round, Roscrea failed to hit the right notes in this crucial County Senior Hurling Championship encounter on Sunday.

With Nenagh Eire Og having won the group, this clash was a straight shootout for the second quarter final spot but it was only Clonoulty/Rossmore who brought the right level of intensity and focus, and had the game in firm control after eleven minutes when they had eight points on the scoreboard, leading by six.

The West champions could afford to take their foot off the gas coming upto half time, when they became wasteful as they had too much craft and guile for a Roscrea side whose forwards never looked like threatening regularly. Well, apart from one that is in Conor Sheedy who contributed all eight points for his side, four of them from play from midfield and but for him it could have been an awful lot worse for the Rossies.

Brighter days should be ahead for Roscrea considering some of the young talent that is potentially on the way in the coming years from last years county minor winning team and they will need it to take themselves to the next level.
