No decision yet on next Tipp manager
Tipperary County Board chairman John Devane has dampened speculation that the appointment of a new senior hurling manager is imminent.
Speculation was rife over the weekend that Tipperary's All Ireland Under 21 winning manager Liam Cahill had gotten the nod from the selection committee to succeed Michael Ryan who stepped down in early August.
However, Devane, head of that 5-person selection committee, confirmed to the Guardian this week that the process “is ongoing” and no decision to put forward a name for ratification has been made of yet.
Next Tuesday, 18th September is scheduled to be the next meeting of the County Board where ratifications take place with Devane “hopeful” they'll be in a position to put forward a name to the meeting and that a clearer picture would be known by the weekend. If it isn't, the meeting could be put back by one week.
While not going into detail about any of the candidates spoken to so far, Devane confirmed “there has been a lot of interest” with interviews with candidates they have approached, as well as people who contacted the selection committee to be considered. The selection committee have had lengthy discussions so far but have has yet to come to a decision.
One of those now out of the running is former Tipperary defender Colm Bonnar who has committed to staying with the Carlow senior hurlers for the 2019 campaign.
