'The Not So Silent Century' at Nenagh Library

As part of the Heritage Week 2018 programme of events around the county, a book on eighteenth century Co Tipperary newspaper articles titled ‘The Not So Silent Century’ was launched at Nenagh Library.

Author Steve Dolan from the Irish Workhouse Centre and librarians Mary McCormack and Margaret Ryan were joined by local history enthusiasts on the day and copies of the limited edition publication, which were available free of charge to the public, were quickly snapped up in the following few days.

National Heritage Week is an annual celebration of Ireland’s natural, built and cultural heritage, co-ordinated by the Heritage Council. The main aim of the week is to promote awareness of our heritage, thereby encouraging its conservation and preservation. It is part of European Heritage Days, a joint initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Union. Many organisations and individuals take part in Heritage Week by organising events around the country.

Nenagh Library, as Europe Direct Information Contact (EDIC) for counties Tipperary, Limerick, Cork and Kerry, was delighted to be able to support Heritage Week 2018 and proud to be associated with the launch of this invaluable booklet.
