Lion's share of litter fines in Nenagh
Tipperary Co Council has issued a total of 83 litter fines so far this year.
The lion's share – 67 – of these were in the Nenagh district.
The council launched a 'Keep Tipp Tidy' campaign targetting roadside litter in July. Run in conjunction with Tipp FM, the campaign involved distribution of car bins to the public. The bins are available to the public in the council's Civic Offices.
A pilot project involving a poster encouraging motorists not to throw bottles, coffee cups or paper from car windows is underway in Clonmel and will be rolled out to the rest of the county in the coming months.
Billboard notices promoting the 'Keep Tipp Tidy Initiative' will also be positioned at known litter 'black spots' where motorists tend to throw rubbish onto roadside verges.
There have also been six CCTV setups to catch litter offenders in the county this year.
