First Racecourse success for Harry Swan

Monday of last week was certainly a red letter day for sixteen-year-old Harry Swan as he rode his first winner when Partnering Stacey Sue to a facile victory in the bumper at Worcester in the UK.

Having recorded a similar victory at Cork earlier in the year, Stacey Sue went to post an odds-on favourite and Harry showed the coolness of a veteran as he elected made all the running before coming home a comfortable two lengths clear of the opposition.

Son of the multiple champion national hunt jockey Charlie Swan, who will always be remembered for his association with the three time Champion Hurdle winner Istabraq, young Harry has racing in his blood. His mother Carol was an accomplished horse woman having ridden a number of winners while his grandfather Timmy Hyde, who trained Stacey Sue, was a well known national hunt rider before setting up the very successful Camas Park Stud near Cashel.

Like most up and coming young amateur riders, Harry will be keen to try his hand on the point to point circuit, however, he will have to wait a little time as the minimum age for point to point riders is 17. It is interesting to note that Stacey Sue made her next appearance at Goffs U.K. sales two days later where she changed hands for £52,000.
