Three generations art exhibition at Nenagh Library
'Generations', an exhibition of artwork by three generations of the Knight family from Dromineer, will be formally opened at Nenagh Library this Saturday.
Pauline Knight, her daughter Edwina Knight and Edwina's daughter Klara Moylan, are running a joint exhibition of paintings and photography at the library for the month of October.
Pauline's painting journey began as therapy at Nenagh Day Care Centre following a stroke in 2013. Under her tutor Margaret England, she discovered a love of colour and texture and an ability to control the movement of the brush.
Pauline had no previous painting experience as it was not offered to her in primary school, and throughout her life the only thing that she painted were boats with a very large brush and gloss paint! The subject matter in her paintings reflect her life experience – there are plenty of boating and lake references, which show a love for the natural environment and her own garden. Pauline will continue on her artistic journey and create art for her own enjoyment.
Her daughter Edwina was educated in Nenagh and went to art college on leaving secondary school in 1986. One year was spent in Galway, and a further three years in Limerick, where she studied sculpture.
Edwina graduated from Limerick School of Art & Design in 1992 after successfully completing a teaching degree. She went on to have a career as an art teacher, which she has been doing for 25 years now in the Nenagh area.
In October 2009 Edwina decided to have her first solo art exhibition. She loves colour and this is reflected in her current work on paper and on tile. She also works in oils and invites the viewer to enjoy spending time with her work.
Her daughter Klara's interest in photography began at a very young age and over time grew into a huge passion. Klara's mother Edwina has always documented life and memories through photos, and this is something that made Klara feel photography is a very special way to document life and capture moments we will never have again.
When she began her graphic design course in college, photography was a prominent subject that she wanted to pursue and she took the primary spot in all aspects of her designs. She finished her degree with a huge knowledge and ever growing passion for taking photographs, and even carried on her studies with another photography course after college.
Seeing the right moment to take a photo, knowing what looks right to the eye and the exact moment to capture emotions and scenes just comes naturally, and it is easily the most enjoyable thing in her life. Klara will continue to be snap-happy and take every opportunity that comes her way to create art through photographs.
All are welcome to attend the opening of 'Generations' at Nenagh Library this Saturday, October 6th, at 2.30pm.
