Devane's quick adjustment from the pitch to sideline
Managing your own club at senior level is a huge honour, but it also come with huge pressure.
To do it at any time is tough but to take it on straight away after finishing up playing is a massive challenge indeed but for Clonoulty/Rossmore's John Devane, he has made it look pretty straightforward.
“Very, very easy,” was how the Clonoulty manager described the transition from playing to management although nothing beat the buzz of playing. “I suppose you miss it, of course you miss it,” he added.
Jumping straight from full back on last years team that reached the county quarter final into manning the sideline can lead to all types of issues, particularly being so close to virtually all the players he had soldiered with for years. However Devane is full of praise for the effort and commitment by the players throughout the campaign so far.
“The backing I've got from my own management team there, the club in general and the players, look it all comes down to the players and everyone of them have pulled on the jersey at different stages during the year and they'll all be needed on Sunday.
“I haven't had any huge problems with the lads, they're a really committed bunch and anyone that's committed to it is there every Tuesday, Friday night on the field if they can and if they're working or they're caught, we understand that too. It's just about working with fellas rather than managing them or anything like that. You just let them loose and let them loose on a Sunday as well.”
