Council ready for winter

Tipperary Co Council has adequate stocks of salt to deal with frozen roads in the event of another harsh winter.

Responding to concerns raised by several councillors at a recent meeting of the council, Senior Roads Engineer Michael F Hayes said the local authority would “not be found wanting” in terms of salt resources. The council's Winter Maintenance period lasts from mid October to end of April. The aim is to keep priority routes safe and as free as possible from winter hazards.

Priority 1 routes include national roads and regional roads of strategic importance. Priority 2: Regional roads with a high volume of traffic using the road. Priority 3: Urban roads and local roads on a priority basis, and urban centres.

In addition, Tipperary County Council has established a Severe Weather Action Team (SWAT) to deal with emergencies as they arise.
