Nenagh fail to hit the heights of what was needed

Limerick’s 2018 star-dust didn’t rub off on Nenagh Eire Og on Sunday as their wait for a second County Senior Hurling Championship title goes on.

John Fitzgerald was hoping to mastermind Nenagh to a first title in 23 years on Sunday but instead, it’s now five final defeats in a row as the Dan Breen Cup remains elusive following defeat to Clonoulty/Rossmore.

“You are speaking to a Limerick man and if anyone knows how difficult it is to get over the line in finals, it would be ourselves,” said a philosophical Nenagh manager following Sunday’s defeat.

“Their day came this year in the All Ireland final and I am sure Nenagh Eire Og’s day will come some day but it wasn’t today and congratulations to Clonoulty.”

He added: “There’s a lot of disappointed bodies inside.

“I have spoken to you a number of times this year that its about bringing a performance and today we didn’t bring a level of performance required to win a County final and that’s the bottom line”.
