Goalkeeping greats on view in Borris

Two of the greatest goalkeepers of the modern era will come face to face one last time this Saturday night as Tipperary and Kilkenny renew their great rivalry for the Amanda Stapleton Benefit Match.

Tipperary's Brendan Cummins may well have hung up his inter-county hurling in 2013 but Kilkenny's Eoin Murphy is still going strongly and has taken the art of goalkeeping to new heights and is expected to pick up his second All Star this Friday night before heading to Borrisoleigh on Saturday night to take part in this special event which he is looking forward to being part of.

“It's phenomenal,” he said of the reaction in both counties to the game.

“I know Paul Murphy was rounding up the Kilkenny lads and there has been a great response.

“With it being a prominent GAA family, with Paddy having hurled for years, and Shane involved in Dublin (Cuala), people had not issue throwing their hat into the ring and doing whatever they could do.

“It's unfortunate that something like this has to bring everyone together for a game like this but the GAA do look after our own.

“When it comes to something like this where it is so close to home, you'd have no issue in helping out or doing what you can as well,” he said.

They are sentiments agreed with by Brendan Cummins who will don the county colours once more on Saturday night.

“It’s nice to be involved and be able to do something.

“It’s a game of roulette that’s probably life, and the ball lands on someone in your family. The support in GAA and all sports in general is going to be epitomised with what’s going to be happening up here,” he said.
