Arrest made over Borrisokane incident

Gardaí have arrested a suspect following an aggravated burglary in which an elderly man was threatened in Borrisokane last month.


The incident happened in broad daylight while the man was in his home in the town. He was reportedly threatened by a number of individuals and items were stolen from his home.


Gardaí investigating the crime have since arrested one male in the Tallaght area of Dublin. A file is being prepared for the DPP.
Sgt Declan O'Carroll of Nenagh Garda Station said there has been a concerted follow-up to the incident, with several searches carried out in the west Dublin area. Sgt O'Carroll expected that further arrests would be made in due course.


Gardaí also carried out a number of searches in the Nenagh district over recent days. Cocaine and cannabis with an estimated value of €450 was discovered in a search of premises at Ballycommon last Thursday. A file is being prepared for the DPP.


The Divisional Drugs Unit attempted to search a male at St Conlon's Road in Nenagh at 4.30pm last Wednesday. The male reportedly became aggressive and attempted to destroy a substance in his possession. Gardaí used pepper spray to detain the individual.


Elsewhere a chainsaw was stolen from a shed in Ballycommon some time between Tuesday and Wednesday of last week. A valuable racing bicycle was stolen from a shed outside a house in Ormond Keep, Nenagh, overnight between Thursday and Friday last.


Gardaí are also investigating an apparent burglary that occurred at Terryglass between Tuesday and Friday of last week. A house was entered but nothing was taken.


A man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving at Springfort Meadows, Nenagh, at 3am last Sunday. The arrest reportedly occurred after gardaí observed a vehicle being driven erratically in the vicinity.


Another man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of an intoxicant on the M7 at Clashnevin, Nenagh, at 9am last Monday. It is understood that gardaí received reports of a man driving dangerously and causing damage to a sign. The suspect was taken to Nenagh Garda Station for a blood sample. A quantity of drugs, suspected to be cocaine, was reportedly found when he was searched.


Also last week, gardaí arrested a male shoplifter on Kenyon St, Nenagh, and responded to reports of antisocial behaviour in Cloughjordan, where complaints were made of youths kicking doors on the main street. No arrests were made.
