Gardaí investigating Nenagh nursing home break-in

Gardaí are investigating an incident in which thieves broke into a nursing home over the past week and stole items from the residents and staff.


The thefts at the nursing home in Nenagh occurred at around 3.50am on November 14th. The gardai have carried out extensive searches in relation to the incident.


In the runup to Christmas, people are being warned to buy items from reputable dealers after goods were stolen from outside a shop at Fairgreen, Borrisokane between November 12th and 13th. Around €900 worth of goods was stolen while a delivery was being made in the early hours of the morning. The gardaí have also warned shop owners to be mindful of such thefts. Local CCTV is being examined in relation to the theft.


Rural crime continues to be an issue with €100 worth of gardening equipment being stolen from a shed in Rockvale cemetery, Newport, between November 13th and 16th.


Nenagh gardaí are warning people not to drink and drive or engage in drug driving after a driver was stopped at a checkpoint at Portroe at 11.15pm on November 15th. The driver was suspected on drug driving and a blood sample has been sent for analysis. A suspected drink driver was arrested at Ballymackeogh, Newport, on November 15th at 7.15pm and a file is being prepared for the DPP. Another suspected drink driver was arrested at Birr Road, Roscrea, on November 14th at 9.30pm.


A number of arrests were made for public order offences on Main Street, Roscrea, on November 16th following damage to a café at around 2.30am. A large crowd had gathered at the time.


A burglary at a house in Roscrea in which the intruder was disturbed by the owner is being treated as a serious incident by local gardaí. The incident happened between 8pm and 9pm on November 17th. The owner returned to the house to find a break-in in progress. Nothing was taken but the gardaí have described it as “serious”.


An intruder was also disturbed by a house owner during a burglary at Thomond Place, Nenagh, on November 13th. The gardaí are carrying out extensive inquiries into the incident, which happened at around 6am.


A single-axle trailer was stolen from a farmyard at Ballymackeogh, Newport, sometime between November 8th and 12th.

A pub in Roscrea was broken into in the early hours of November 19th and a number of items taken. Roscrea gardaí are investigating.


The gardaí in Roscrea also arrested a female at Chapel Lane in the town at 10.45pm on November 16th. The woman was detained under the Public Order Act.


Meanwhile, Sgt Declan Carroll of Nenagh Garda Station has warned people to be careful of securing their heating oil following the theft of oil in the Newport area. "There is always an increase in this type of theft at this time of the year and it is probably an under-reported crime," he said.
