Christmas arrests in Nenagh district

Gardaí made several arrests in relation to public disorder and illegal drugs during an otherwise relatively quiet Christmas period in the Nenagh district.

The gardaí were busy on St Stephen's Day and night. In Borrisokane, a male was arrested for being threatening and abusive to gardaí in the town at around 8.30pm. A similar incident occurred at Townspark, Roscrea, later the same night.

Also on St Stephen's night, an intoxicated man was reportedly arrested for his own safety on Castle St, Roscrea. Another man was arrested for being drunk on the street earlier in the day.

In Nenagh, gardaí are investigating an allegation of assault in a licensed premises on Christmas Eve. A male reportedly received injuries in the incident. It is understood that a file on the matter will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Also in Nenagh, gardaí pursued a male over a dangerous driving incident on Silver St shortly before midnight last Saturday. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of an intoxicant. A female was arrested under the Public Order Act in relation to the same incident.

Gardaí are also investigating the theft of alloys from a vehicle at Behamore, Cloughjordan, some time between Friday and Saturday last. A garda spokesman warned that  there have been a number of similar incidents in the district recently.

Meanwhile, the Tipperary Divisional Drugs Unit made a number of significant seizures in Nenagh during the week before Christmas. Cannabis and amphetamines with a street value of around €1,700 were seized at Ormond Keep on December 20th. On December 22nd, a male was searched at Emmett Place in Nenagh at around 2.30am and suspected cocaine with a street value of €250 was found on his person. Files on both incidents are being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Elsewhere, a brick was thrown through the front door of a house at Carney, Nenagh, at around 10pm on December 18th. On December 20th, at around 6.30pm, a hammer was thrown through the window of a car at Main Street, Newport.
