New year kicks off in Ballycommon
Muintir na Tíre are happy to announce that we will kick-start the New Year in Ballycommon Hall on January 6th.
A big welcome for you to enjoy a medley of music provided by Ballycommon CCÉ, get together with neighbours, look at what is going on in the hall and put forward any ideas you may have. As always, a welcome with a cuppa and goodies for all – Sunday January 6th from 3-6pm!
We are delighted to report a host of local activity and events regularly fill the community hall in Ballycommon, a local hall, which continues to be a hive of local activity. Over the past number of years there has been a variety of users and events. These include Ballycommon CCÉ with regular monthly sessions and Oíche Ceoil for young and old; musicians and listeners!
Every week upwards of 60 - 70 young traditional musicians of the In Tune For Life Orchestra rehearse creating magical music for future concerts. There is also an active adult fortnightly session for those wishing to 'renew' their musical talents, young and not so young musicians showing that traditional music is thriving in the area; are all brought together in the lovely hall.
Such comings and goings are bringing great activity to our village. Continuing on the cultural theme, a group of local and near local workers and residents that are of Indian origin use the hall to celebrate family events, cultural festivals, and children’s club. Irish dancing school for children continues in the hall as does Sean Nós dancing classes for adults. Other health and wellbeing activities are strongly represented too.
There is a very popular weekly Zumba class that will get the adrenaline pumping or a calmer but equally beneficial yoga class is available weekly also.
All ages are catered for in this beautifully maintained hall. There has been a very active Foróige youth club using the hall as its base over the past few years and hopefully will continue. Ages 10-18 attended weekly in two separate groups of primary and secondary school. And then for the over 18s plus, there is the CHAT group that meet every Wednesday morning, rain or shine, to share community, craft, heritage, and teas with each other.
Nenagh Flower Club find the hall and its facilities ideal for workshops on flower arranging or hosting talks by guest speakers. For a little bit of drama (!), the very talented Puckane & Carrig Drama Group have put on so many great plays; so well-produced, acted, directed, and happily well-supported by locals and visitors.
There is a long-standing tradition of 45 being played in Ballycommon. And so it is great to say that every Tuesday night there is a very popular 45 drive in the hall. People travel from near and far to attend. The teas served monthly are always welcomed by the card players.
On an annual basis, our local Apostolic Society host a special display and sale of their beautifully crafted products. And when the winter rolls in, Kildangan GAA have a major timber auction on the grounds of the hall.
The badminton hall is home to the Ballycommon Badminton Club and is also used by the Wheelers club for a workout space. With the arrival of broadband to the hall shortly, many other types of events could be facilitated – such as training, meetings, meetings via Skype; we are open to all ideas.
